Vedanta for the Benefit of the Whole World
A little bit today about Vedanta and Vedantic ideas. I’m a
new student to this, so I don’t speak with any authority here.
A derivative of the Vedas, Vedanta gives us a way of looking at absolute consciousness that I can only describe as ‘clean’.
Free of the pageantry and fanaticism of most religions, the gist of Vedanta is absolute
consciousness with the goal of ever-increasingly higher states of
consciousness, while recognizing that this single consciousness is our nature
and is inherent in all sentient beings. (Hence, the urgency of veganism.)
Vedanta appeals to rational intellect and yet feeds the
spiritual urge that resides in every living being. I would describe it as more
science-based than spiritual-based, and grounded in human goals. It segregates
no one and nothing. The one and only consciousness that exists expresses itself
consciously though all sentient beings.
Think about this: even quantum physicists are recognizing a
single consciousness as the science of all creation. Science itself is moving
toward Vedanta.
We are not body and mind: we are birthlessness and
deathlessness, eternal truth and timelessness, all of us with divine potential
and rational thought.
Vedanta does away with religious fundamentalism, sectarianism
and fanaticism - those things that have possessed this world for too long. It’s
not a faith, and not a religion: it’s ancient Indian knowledge, it’s the
essence of the Vedas. The soul is Divine and must work to manifest this divinity
– for the benefit of the whole world.
Vedantic ideas have taken hold of my mind of late. I’m
going to study and write more on Vedanta and invite you to learn as I humbly learn.
I’m very excited to understand more.
