The Last Summer Tomato, and a New Kadai
Last
night, I used our last garden tomato in a spicy daal for dinner. Time kind of
slowed down as I sliced into that tomato. There it was, the last, delicious
tomato of summer. Thank you, tomato. I also added some garden mint to the dish
(not really traditional), because the mint is still doing its fabulous thing in
the garden.
It took weeks to find the right one, but the 18-inch cast iron kadai I was looking for was finally found this morning at a source in New York. Here it is:
Free
shipping to Connecticut too. So I’ll probably be making our first kadai-made masala
sometime next week. I found a recipe for a vegetarian paneer masala that will
use the homemade paneer to the best advantage.
Grateful.
