Beautiful Sandei
A quick post to introduce you to ‘Sandei’ (Tibetan for
‘Sunday’), a gorgeous mourning dove that flew into our house Sunday while being
chased by crows.
She fell to the ground, stunned, so we watched over her for a
few hours, hoping she would come around and fly off. When she didn’t, we placed
her in a box with blankets and kept her safe from predators for the night.
On Monday, she was alert but not flying, so we brought her
to Safe Haven Wildlife Rehabilitation in North Granby, where she’s being cared
for.
I want to commend Safe Haven Wildlife Rehabilitation.
They’re an excellent resource for wildlife rehab and rescue in Hartford and
Tolland Counties. Operators Mike and Susan are fast to call back, know their
stuff, and charge nothing. They’re smart, dedicated, compassionate people. It’s
wonderful to have them nearby.
If you live in either Hartford or Tolland Connecticut
county, put their number in your cell phone so you’ll have it handy in case you
find a wild animal that needs help: 877-572-2666. If they don’t answer, leave a
message along with your number. They’ll call back right away. Friends of the
animals: bless their hearts.
I’ll be checking in on Sandei later this week.
